A recognized expert on public issues management and communications, John
Gustavson has been President and CEO of the Canadian Marketing Association
(CMA) since 1990.
Founded in 1967, the CMA represents the integration and convergence of all
marketing disciplines, channels and technologies. It is the largest
marketing association, embracing Canada's major business sectors and is the
marketing community's leading advocate on the key public policy issues
affecting both consumer and B2B marketers; the principal provider of
knowledge, marketing intelligence and professional development opportunities
for marketers; and catalyst for networking and business opportunities. The
CMA's 800 corporate members include Canada's major financial institutions,
insurance companies, publishers, retailers, relationship marketers, agencies
and charitable organizations, and those engaged in e-business and Internet
marketing.

JOHN GUSTAVSON

John Gustavson has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Canada's largest
marketing association since 1990. Following a period of private law practice,
Mr. Gustavson served as Executive Assistant to the Ontario Minister of Consumer and
Commercial Relations and the Minister of Industry and Tourism. He continued his
government service on a part-time basis as Chairman of a government appeal board.
Subsequently, Mr. Gustavson's career has concentrated on public issues management,
communications and association administration with both major national trade associations
and private sector corporations. Since 1990, Mr. Gustavson has held the position of
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Marketing Association. He is
responsible for developing the strategic direction of the Association, as well as
directing and managing its affairs.

Mr. Gustavson is a past-Chair of the Canadian Society of Association Executives and a
past member of the Board of Directors of Advertising Standards Canada. In 2005,
Mr. Gustavson was named the top association executive in Canada by the Canadian Society
of Association Executives, an award given only 16 times in the 51 year history of CSAE.
As well, he participates in several industry and professional associations and is the
author of articles on public issues management for corporations and competition law for
association management.
